CLIENT'S RESPONSIBILITY

  • Contact the Public Defender’s Office as soon as you are charged with a crime to determine if you are eligible for a Public Defender. Do not wait until you receive notice from the court with a hearing date.
  • Bring information regarding your financial status, charges, names and addresses of witnesses to your eligibility interview.
  • Contact your attorney as soon as you receive a letter from the Public Defender’s Office advising you to do so.
  • Do not discuss the facts of your case with anyone who is not employed by the Public Defender’s Office.
  • Advise your lawyer if you move or change your phone number.
  • Do not file motions with the court on your behalf or send letters to anyone about your case.
